The Republican plan to give $140 billion more to ICE

Last night, Republicans advanced a budget resolution that could result in ICE and Border Patrol getting an additional $140 billion to fund their warrantless arrests, militarized deployments, and concentration camps. That’s on top of the $170 billion Republicans pumped into Trump’s mass deportation machine in last year’s Big Ugly Bill.
And just like with the Big Ugly Bill, they’re using the reconciliation process to try to ram this funding through without needing a single Democratic vote.

The bill Republicans are crafting is horrendous, but it could also be a huge political liability — if we make it one. While Americans across the country are struggling to afford healthcare, housing, and food, Republicans are working overtime to shovel billions of dollars into unaccountable agencies that already have budgets bigger than small armies.

After last night’s vote, the GOP still has several hurdles to jump through to pass this funding. Throughout this process, we’re going to be building a massive public backlash and making sure every Republican feels the heat for trying to hand over their constituents’ tax dollars to violent, lawless agencies.

Here’s what you can do right now:

If you have a Republican representative, call and tell them you don’t want any more of your tax dollars going to ICE and Border Patrol. Demand they focus on healthcare and housing instead of giving more money to these lawless agencies.
If you have Republican senators, call and demand the same. Then, encourage your friends and neighbors to call as well.
If you have any Democratic Members of Congress, email them and tell them to fight this bill with everything they’ve got. So far, Dems have been (almost) completely united in opposing additional funding for ICE and Border Patrol. But a no vote isn’t enough here. Democrats need to mount a fierce campaign against this bill in the media, online, and even by stumping in Republican districts to try to toxify and block this bill.
Every penny Republicans choose to spend on ICE and Border Patrol, on Trump’s wars of choice, and his gaudy ballroom, is money that could be going to healthcare, schools, and making life more affordable for working families in our country. The GOP is going out of its way to prove how little they care about their own constituents — and we’re going to hammer them for it. And together, we’re going to do everything we can do to block this bill.
