October 28–5 to do’s

Indivisibles,

Yesterday, the Trump campaign offered its closing message to voters via a marathon rally at Madison Square Garden. It was a message of division and hate as speakers disparaged Puerto Ricans, Black Americans, immigrants, transgender people, Jews, Palestinians, and women. Trump once again labeled Democrats the “enemies within” while his guests called Kamala Harris “the Antichrist” and — somehow — even more offensive things than that.

It was an event so fascistic, misogynistic, and xenophobic that news outlets have dispensed with their usual euphemisms and are calling it out for the racist hate rally it was.

Some have argued that Trump whiffed at the chance to present his vision of the future to voters. He didn’t. This was his vision. The event perfectly captured the danger and divisiveness we can expect from a second Trump term. Many are connecting it with the darkest chapters of our history, but the more horrifying fact is that this was a glimpse not just into the past, but our future if MAGA wins.

Thankfully, we can wash the taste of that rally from our collective palate tomorrow night, when Kamala Harris offers voters another, very different vision for our country. Her closing argument, to be delivered from the site where Trump unleashed the mob on January 6th, will offer a vision of an America where democracy is upheld, where reproductive rights are protected, healthcare is accessible to all, and families are supported to live, thrive, and prosper. Her message will be one of unity, inclusion, and progress — a powerful contrast to Trump’s rally of hatred and grievance.

In the end though, many of the voters we need to win will hear little about either event. It’s up to us to carry the closing message to every voter by knocking on doors and making calls, ensuring that the contrast between these candidates and the stakes of the election are heard loud and clear.

With only 8 days left before Election Day, the urgency of this moment cannot be overstated. The race is close, two vastly different futures are possible, but the outcome remains within the margin of effort.

With that, read on for your weekly to-dos:

 Your 5 weekly to-dos

  1. If you’re eligible, sign up for Neighbor2Neighbor. Our innovative Neighbor2Neighbor program is twice as effective as traditional door-to-door canvassing, connecting you with 10 likely-Democratic voters right in your neighborhood. Your first 10 neighbors (or next 10, if you’ve already volunteered) are waiting, so sign up now!
  2. Call-o-ween! Call NY voters on Wednesday, October 30 at 6pm ET/3pm PT. The path to taking back the House runs through New York. Let’s scare the pants off of MAGA Republicans by joining fellow Indivisibles for our Call-o-ween phonebank to call voters to support Harris/Walz and congressional candidates Laura Gillen (NY-04), Mondaire Jones (NY-17), and Josh Riley (NY-19).
  3. Call voters in North Carolina on Sunday, November 3 at 1pm ET/10am PT. Trump won NC in 2020 by an incredibly slim margin and recent polls show this race is within the margin of error. Join us in contacting NC voters to make sure they turn out for Kamala and Tim — the voters we contact now could push this purple state in the right direction!
  4. Join Indivisible co-founders Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg for a special pre-election coffee klatch on Monday, November 4 at 3pm ET/12pm PT to take a deep breath and plan for Election Day (before knocking a few more doors or doing one more phonebanking shift)! Leah and Ezra will discuss what to expect, the best news sources to follow the results, and how to interpret returns.
  5. Phonebank with podcasters on Monday, November 4 at 4pm ET/1pm PT. Join Indivisible and Andrea Chalupa of Gaslit Nation as we join forces to save our democracy in 2024! We’ll be calling voters in states like Montana and Nebraska that have crucial races that could determine control of the Senate.

P.S. — With the race as close as it is and just eight days to go, our volunteers can use all the support they can get. If you’re able to donate, please click here to pitch in and ensure they have everything they need to get out the vote and win this election.

Upcoming Week of Action

Indivisibles are going all in November 1 – November 5 for our Every Last Door Week of Action. During these crucial last days, we are asking group leaders, activists, and volunteers to get out the vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, and Democrats up and down the ballot by knocking on doors in their own neighborhoods or contacting voters in critical battleground states.

Our Neighbor2Neighbor program makes it easy to get out the vote. And sure, we say all the time how it’s twice as effective as normal canvassing, but you don’t have to take it from us — Rolling Stone said this weekend that this program could potentially be the thing that wins this election for Kamala.

Check out our toolkit for everything you need to know about our week of actionand then get out there to knock some doors!
